So, introduction time...

Yesterday I placed my order for my first Skoda.

Ive owned lots (too many!) cars over the years and have not had a Skoda before. However whenever I’ve been in one (mostly taxis I’m my neck of the woods) I’ve always been impressed with the space and how well screwed together they are. As ever, you engage the driver in conversation and ask about the milage on the car and often the answer is 150,000 or 200,000 miles. Yet as a passenger you’d think maybe 10,000 miles.

These things always get me thinking, so a lot of internet based research ensured, YouTube clips watched etc, configurator played around with and importantly negotiations with Swmbo opened.

we went to Simpson’s in Colne yesterday and met by appointment with Craig Passmore, a very nice, friendly and knowledgeable salesman. We were given the keys to the car we wanted to test, basically waved off with him saying “take as long as you need”.

As mentioned, I’ve had loads of cars over the years and Craig/Simpsons are one of the better - if not the best - dealer we’ve encountered, so far I’d thoroughly recommend them.

my first impressions of the 2019 Superb Estate L&K (190 Diesel, DSG) were incredibly favourable. Very nicely put together, smooth, comfortable, plenty quick enough, very well appointed. A quick driver swap to see what Swmbo thought and she too felt the same.

When we got back there was a long chat with a Craig, looking at a number of options available to us for “ready made” cars showed us that a 190 could be within budget (I’d gone out with buying the 150 in mind). However, the 150 that was available was cheaper, but more importantly to me, had the variable boot floor box ticked (the 190 didn’t). As an added bonus, it had the towbar option too. This option had been the topic of an “interesting “ conversation at home as I fancied having a towbar but as Swmbo said, you don’t have anything to tow..I think it’s just that they’re so hard to add later, options of being able to tow at a later date IF I wanted to would be open...

by the time we left, a Superb L&K 150 TDi DSG in Petrol Blue with beige interior, variable floor, towbar and spare wheel had been ordered. We left the wheels as the standard 18s as all the Internet reviews seem to suggest the ride would be better on 18s.

It was already at the port in Germany, and as of today was released for shipment. We should have it by the end of March.

so that’s me in a nutshell, I look forward to reading all the various hints and tips and reviews/opinions going forward.

naturally, pictures of the car will be posted once we have it!

A warm welcome to the Forum !  Sounds a great car and something to look forward to.

very best of luck with your new car. I recently purchased a new superb sportline myself 150bhp love it. It's my second skoda i had a sportline Octavia 90bhp. The Octavia was a class car but i felt it was under powered and i should have went for the 115bhp at the time. That's the only real reason I changed.

So today was collection day for the new Superb estate.

However a couple of days ago the dealers got in touch to say that the car hadn’t arrived, but has been promised by Skoda UK that they will receive it (with 24 others) by 31st March.

A bit bit disappointing but they said to go over anyway, put the PX car in to them, and if my car wasn’t there then they would loan me a Kodiaq for the few days while they wait for my car.

To me, this is absolutely fine, as I’m running around in the salesman’s car they have a vested interest in not dragging things on too long.

I hadn’t driven the Kodiaq before today, but have to say what a nice car it is. I still would have gone for the Superb estate, however if I hadn’t and had gone for the Kodiaq I’d be a very happy man.

The car I put in for PX was a Range Rover Velar First Edition, 3l Diesel and TBH the difference in drive and quality between the Velar and Skoda is nowhere near the gulf the price difference would suggest! In fact on a practical level for ease of driving, things like the auto hold on the Skoda are better. Need to use a bit more throttle though on the Skoda but then again it’s 190bhp 340 nm torque against 300bhp and 700 nm torque so what do I expect.

So so I’ll just have to be patient for another few days, but am probably even more excited now than I was.

So a big day today...I finally became the very proud owner of a 2019 Superb Estate L&K with the 150 boho Diesel engine. Petrol blue with beige interior.

should have been with me by the end of March, then the date kept getting pushed out. But finally it arrived at the dealer and I got my hands on it.

have to say that the dealer (Simpson’s in Colne) and in particular the salesman (Craig Passmore) have been fantastic throughout the whole process and I’d not hesitate to recommend them. As the car was due by 30 March, since then I have been tooling around in one of their Kodiaq, for about 10 days, then a VRS Kodiaq for the past couple of weeks. I was very impressed by the standard Kodiaq but found the VRS a massive disappointment - but I’m probably not the target market. The engine was nice in the VRS though!

the new Superb has got off to a flying start, absolutely every bit as good as I’d hoped. Managed to stretch the 18 mile trip home to 65 miles and only come home because it was getting near to the dogs tea time and Swmbo isn’t about today..The My Connect app shows 45.6 mpg which is better than I’d expected especially as for quite a bit of the time the car was sat with the engine running while Craig did the comprehensive hand over.

cant wait to get some more miles under the belt.

will try to post a couple of pictures in the Superb 3 gallery. (But I’ve not posted a picture on this site before so it might take a while!)

Great stuff. I'm sure the extra waiting will have been worth it. Very best of luck with your new car and safe motoring. I have to say I have been very happy with my own one since I received it in January.
