I'm still looking for a used Fabia Mk2. I just viewed a 64 plate 1.2 HTP 68bhp model at a Skoda main dealer. Nice car but service history is incomplete.

On listening to the engine I heard a 'slightly tappy' kinda sound that I'd not noticed when viewing other Fabias. Now it may be that this sound is perfectly normal for this engine and I've just not noticed it before...

Could you have a listen to my vid of this? The sound I'm on about is a bit more apparent 29s to 33s - when I moved my phone. Does this engine sound as it should?

very tappy.........not great in my opinion...but mobiles do "magnify" sound on videos.

Sounds just like my 10 plate 1.2 HTP which has a full service history. It sounded like that from new when it belonged to my father and still sounds the same at 82K now I own it. It uses no oil at all and is a lovely unit.  The only real issue has been the gearbox which needed rebuilding after a bearing failed last year. That cost £1.033.00 with a new clutch so listen out for any gearbox whining on your test drive.

I'm probably being overly worried here, having bought too many lemons in the past... It seems every Fabia I've looked at to date has some sort of question mark...

Not liking  this  aspect - proceed with caution. Bring this to the sellers attention.

Always be aware that people normally change their cars for a reason. Has the dealer given a cast iron guarantee  with this car - can you detail mileage please. The HTP's were always a bit 'tappy'

Mileage was 54k. Would come with 12 month Skoda guarantee. BUT it's just disappeared from the dealer's site so maybe it's now sold, anyway!!
