Infotainment over complicated. Turn off?

Featured Replies

Just picked up my new Fabia, and listened whilst the salesperson raced through the infotainment system and connected myiPhone 5S using its hotspot - which seems to be a real drain on the phone’s battery (?).

I really have no need to know petrol prices at garages, and all the other non-essential bits and pieces Infotainment seems to offer.

So how do I exit Infotainment and leave me able to pick up radio stations, receive/make phone calls using my phone, and use the Amundson SatNav. Not sure I would eventually signup to £50 a year.

Any observations welcomed. Thanks

Get a cable, plug it into the USB and plug the phone in for CarPlay (it should work 'out of the box'). Therein, you have a charging point, you get the interface which is akin to that on your iPhone screen and you can access Google Maps which is easy to use. Don't have to worry about battery drain then.

You get your phone calls, radio is as per regular radio (the DAB is good, I've found), and the Sat Nav is accessible and easy to use.

Saves you £50.

Edit: You can also use radio and maps at the same time, then. I often leave the maps running 'in the background' and listen to the radio.

Hi Ben,

Many thanks fot the advice  - I have taken it! All works a treat, with one exception, I cannot exit the satnav - obviously pressing the wrong buttons. What’s the solution?

Edit. Reason I want to turn off satnav is that it leaves an image in the centre of the small screen between the main dials, whereas I want the current speed shown, as normal.

Built in satnav, no button seems toe it it.

Very welcome. Is that the inbuilt Sat Nav or the phone's Sat Nav? Also, is it a route which you can't clear or do pressing buttons not exit the Sat Nav screen?

I edited my post. Hope it makes what I’m trying to do clearer.

Okay so on the steering wheel you have a button, far right, which looks like two overlapped squares. Press that and you should get a list of options in the small screen between dials. Use the scroll-wheel, also right-hand side, to flick through to 'driving data'. From there, you should have the speedo between your centre dials. If not, use the scroll-wheel while you're looking at whatever driving datum is presented, whether it be mpg average, speed warning, time spent driving etc.

Edit: If you press the 'view' button, it'll cycle between the two most recently viewed menus, i.e. lattermost and currently viewed, just to add some confusion into the mix. Me, in my slightly OCD ways, have the cycle between phone data and driving data, so I can hang-up with the steering wheel when using the phone.
