Roofbox

Featured Replies

Hi, I have thule roof bars to carry my kayak which is fine, however they do create wind noise when they are empty ie not anything attached to them, my question is,   a friend has offered to lend me a roof box for a vacation trip has anybody got experience of a roofbox fitted to a yeti, any problems or wind noise ?

If anything a roofbox reduces noise vs empty bars, or at least changes the frequency of it to a far less distracting tone.  We drove to Normany and back with a roofbox on Thule aero bars and I don't recall any specific issues other than a small dent in fuel economy.  Weirdly we also noticed that our young daughter complained of travel sickness with the empty box on, which is something she never normally suffers - perhaps a low frequency resonance effect?

One tip  - the rear wheel makes a great step to stand on for mounting and filling the 'box.

That was the one thing I was going to warn about: it'll be quite high up!

I carry a folding step stool for those occasions when I need a bit of extra height to get at stuff on the roof (and I'm 6ft).  It comes in handy even just for washing the roof properly (e.g seagull splatter, yeuch), or scraping snow off it.
