1.6 105 mk3s....

Featured Replies

Well, some of you may know my fat german slob of inshi7nia needs a quadruple bypass or a heart transplant after deciding to try eating its own big end crank bearings. Its done as far as im concerned, so im now hunting its replacement.

After much calculating and option weighing i have a budget. Which can potentially get me into a mk3 octy in the age range im aiming for (2013-15), but only at 1.6 engine size. Had been really hoping for a nice mk2 vrs but my budget has them too old (2011 doing well..).

So.. the common as telephone poles 1.6 105bhp it is, unless i go a different brand...

What are the genuine concerns/ likely problems?

I have found 2 i like the look of, a 2014 elegance with 115k and a 2015 elegance with 120k.

Both have full skoda service histories (likely ex pcps) and timing belt/ water pumps done.

Talk to me folks, i want to come back to being a 2 skoda driveway...

I currently have a Mk3 1.6 tdi 105 estate. It is a 2014 Dsg Elegance. I bought it from a Skoda dealer at about 8 months old with around 5k on the clock, It is now on 133,000 miles.

I am up and down the country all of the time, so a lot of motorway driving. Overall average MPG is about 55, sometimes it can be in the low 60's on the display. Since owning the car it has been regularly serviced on the variable regime, with the last service a few weeks ago, which was the cam belt / water pump, rear discs and pads. The front pads were changed at about 85k and the discs are still OK. It has gone through the MOT's without any issues so far and no issues were reported at the recent service. I get almost 40k out of the tyres, so apart from servicing and tyres I have had to change the wiper blades.

The 7 speed DSG makes it a nice drive. My previous car was a MK2 1.6 DSG and the one before that was a Mk2 1.6 manual 5 speed and I found I would be between 4th and 5th at 40 mph, no such issues with the DSG.

I have a mk3 1.6 elegance too engines are pretty bullet proof, they has the water coolant issue but is a known problem, mine hasn’t suffered from this though, mines the 5 speed manual and I do long drives down from Scotland to derby and I can sometimes see mpg in the 65 range which I’m happy with, variable service and in two years I’ve done 30k miles and no problems.
