low idle/how can it be increased?

Featured Replies

I have a 1.4 TDI Diesel Fabie Greenline, 2009 and recently, at the new MOT, (I will bring that up later in a new post) I was told by the examiner that the idling speed was fairly low. (It has passed).

Although the car ticks over ok and does not cut out, I have wondered about this before and as these cars "Drive by wire" with the system being overseen by the ECU, I would like to know if there is a physical way to raise the idle by just the smallest of amounts, simply!

I did not want to go down the re-programming route unless via a simple VCDS type function or one that would need re-doing whenever the earth was disconnected, etc.

On old, carburettor cars, you might adjust the throttle cable or air screw, etc to keep the revs at about the right pace but on this, I am not sure and don't want to end up with a high rev rate or constant stalling.

So, any real knowledge will be very greatly appreciated, guesswork is kind of where I am at!

Many thanks, MRGF.

No-one any idea's?

Perhaps I will just have to "Live" with it.  AT least it does not stall or cut out so more a desire then a need!

what is the idling speed?

I think its around 750 which is slightly low. Raise it by for and the engine is quieter and smooother, hence the desire to raise it a minuscule. As mentioned though, it is not low enough to stall or cut out.

No you can't adjust the idle speed.

mine is a 1.6 tdi and idles at around the same speed.
