I sold the l & k almost a year ago and noticed at the time the wheels had started to delaminate even after always hand washing and waxing to protect ,anyway I notice the old girl in a car park yesterday and couldn’t believe how bad the delamination was now ,I know diamond cut wheels are a potential disaster but these looked like they had spent their lives driving up and down a salty beach.

I'm not a fan of diamond cut wheels and I have seen some really bad ones on quite new cars.

....waxing and cleaning does not help prevent alloy wheels delaminating as this is a function of the aluminium alloy material and happens from the "inside out".

When I got my first set of Proteus alloys replaced under warranty due to delamination, I was informed it was due to a faulty batch. 

 

The second set began to delaminate even sooner. I was refused a second set of replacements on the grounds I must be doing something to cause it. 

 

I ended up getting the damn things powder coated.

It’s a shame to see so many new cars with great looking diamond cut wheels when we all know they aren’t going to last once there is a break in the lacquer that is the start of the delamination and aluminium just dissolves when in contact with salt and moisture.
