My mirror adjustment switch is not moving the left hand mirror

i have adjusted it by hand

i understand that to replace it means the door trim needs to be removed??

how does one do this please

Never got on with trim removals, fords and vw’s

Any advice gratefully received

I'm interested in this also as my mirror knob went missing when I had tinted windows at one of those backstreet garages, good tinting but lost the knob taking the panel off!

that makes it look really simple...no tugging and fussing with door clips...

will have to now get a replacement....they seem to be a bit expensive as they come with a heating circuit control...yikes..£100!!!

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332784131888

which i would not ask for normally...ie a simple1 0 2 switch no element symbol

will keep surfing though....

many thanks for that link

well i feel exhausted....

loads of left hand drive switches on ebay....and the only ones i can see under the 5J fabia designation are £90-100 made in germany

thought there might be some to suit my fabia facelift 5J 2008 model...cheaper...is it the electrical heating side of things which push the price up!!

this is the part no i have been googling with  SJ2959565

i think maybe the 6J part looks the same but seem to be all listed for lhd...and in $$

Instead of EBay, you could try a breakers yard. Now be warned, for certain things, headlights for example it can be a complete hit or miss. Their description of mint can be as rough as a badger. Insist on pictures.

Before you buy the switch and swap over, etc, have you checked the wires inside the door loom? (The rubber door bellow, where they snap quite frequently) They tend to snap and either stop mirrors or windows working, etc. This is much more likely to have happened then the switch failing.

that seems a simpler and less complicated start...and saves £££

will do that this afternoon

just a matter of pulling the rubber boot off the door side/ or body work??

cheers

more or less... There is a kind of lever clip, similar ti an old fashioned fuse lever, if you get what I mean. Lower that and you can remove the boot from the door frame. It will still stay on the door. Gently slip back the boot/gaiter and have a good close up look at the wiring. They tend to snap anywhere along the length and you may find more then one broken or some on the way!

I had one snap on each front door and on one, I did a "Temporary" Repair, using those little metal terminals you push wires in to and screw tight, each end.  A little electrical tape around and thats the temporary repair. (Lasted a few years so far, with just one wire popping back out and needing pushing in and re-tightening). On the drivers side, I needed to add a little extra wire, so employed the same method, with two terminals and a short length of cable. Still working!

The whole loom, if you keep an eye on this forum, is around £80, compared to a little labour time, and a few terminals for about 80p!

You could use bullet connectors, spades, etc or if ambitious, solder in an extra bit of cable. Nicer job if you have the tools and talent.

Look up or bellow wires, windows not working, mirrors not working, etc and you will see it IS quite common and the most likely starting point. I even thought my mirror motor had failed, disassembled both mirrors, swapped motors (Identical) to find the non-working one worked fine, the working one did not. it was after this, I discovered the old door bellow issue!

AliExpress.com - get one for less than a fiver.....if you don’t mind waiting a while.

thanks...havent got round to this....but you make it sound easy...

i have some of the straight connectors...the type you mention and the crimping car ones...and the tool to crimp hope its just the wire, but that is as far as i will hazard just now...

i have set the passenger mirror by hand and its ok for position just now...i wont be changing my seat position for a bit i think

the drivers door side works ok..

cheers
