PDI on new Octavia vRS mark II - advice wanted for tomorrow

Featured Replies

Calling all new Octavia vRS mark II owners (and everyone else who has bought a new car). I collect my new 'set of wheels' tomorrow and am very excited about it.

I have never bought a new car before and would like some advice on what I should check for before accepting the vehicle. I understand that a pre-delivery inspection is written up but what else should I be looking for on a new car.

In particular if you have bought the new Octavia vRS in the last couple of months is there anything I should be aware of? I look forward to reporting back tomorrow afternoon, hopefully with some photographs  .

Thanks in advance.

After reading one chap's report on the Sport he bought from a dealer in Southampton, I'd check the oil level before leaving the dealership!!! Also check they give you all paperwork and manuals, etc and the car has all the options fitted you ordered and paid for and that the car is in showroom condition with no dings or scratches.... :D

Just the basics really.

Check that any options are indeed present and correct. It's not unheard of them to be missing or even for an estate to arrive as a hatchback.

Have a look round the bodywork to check for damage or repairs as you would when buying a second hand car and don't be afraid to ask for as long as you like to check it over before grabbing the paperwork and driving off.

Check wheels for marks, SWMBO fiesta had a scuff mark but dunno if it was her or garage, she denied it :)

Have a look underneath as well to check for any obvious signs of impact damage. Get confirmation of what type of service the car has been set for, ie variable or fixed. (Some dealers have been known to reset variable to fixed on the PDI.) Also ask if the engine needs 'special' oil and then try and get a bottle FOC. :D

If the car is outside and its raining, ask them to let you see the car inside - get them to dry it off -- otherwise your not going to be able to check the bodywork properly.

Check things like spare wheel/tools are there. mats are there, check all books complete.

check wheels/tyres for damage - also check interior.

Don't be afraid to slag off the valet if its no good -- I'm still removing excess polish from door seals and around badges after 2 weeks

Tyre Pressures, mine were way too high!!!!, IIRC others on here had the same problem.

Brilliant, thanks guys. I checked it all and found the interior a little dirty in places but nothing that a damp cloth didn't fix. The rest was as expected for brand new car. I love it and will post some pictures later.
