Driver window not working

Featured Replies

Hi. The drivers window switch is not working. I cant even open the right window from the driver side switch.

window wont even open when pressing the remote open button.

any advice what to do?

The usual suspect here, is the loom inside the rubber bellow, between the door and the chassis. The wires tend to snap and need either repairing or replacing. As new looms cost around £80 per side, repairing can be a good start until they get broken up too much.

You will need to pop the rubber gaiter off the chassis side, by squeezing and pulling gently. Then there is a kind of plug with a lever, like a fusebox/power lever you lower down and unplug. Slide the bellows back as far as possible by hand, taking a close look at all the little wires inside. I think green is the central locking, whilst grey and white may be the windows. If they are broken, join them up again with a block connector and/or a spade type terminal and plug all back together again and hopefully it will work. Do take a close look inside as sometimes, the small thin wires are hard to spot if broken.

With ours (2012 mk2 Fabia) it was 6 broken wires in the drivers door wiring loom initially, but even replacing that with the new loom didn't resolve the issue we had with drivers window and passengers window, we also needed a new switch/ regulator and that has fixed it.

Part numbers taken from Invoice/ quote provided by Ingrams Skoda (ours is front electric windows only)

5J 0971120HG         Harness Front offside          (£84.86 inc vat)

1Z 0959858REH       o/s/f window switch            (£24 plus vat)

Thankfully changing the new switch has resolved the issue.
