VRS Misfire?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a 2008 VRS 2.0 tdi 170BHP that has an intermittent misfire and extremely strong smell of fumes and occasional white smoke, I’ve changed inlet manifold, glow plugs, glow plug/injector wiring loom and had the egr valve cleaned while changing the manifold, I’m thinking injectors or possible egr valve failure, can anyone shed some light on any experiences they might have had? Would really be appreciated

Do you know someone with VDCS?, that would be a start.

No unfortunately not I don’t think any of the local garages have them and I’m sure a main dealer garage would cost me a mortgage 😂

Yeah, my car has done these things. I'd almost go as far as to say that these things are a 'characteristic' of the PD170 engine (I assume your don't have a newer CR engine). The fumes are the worst issue and I think it is due to a cat/dpf not working efficiently anymore - not found a cure yet but i think the fumes come from the tailpipe, not the engine bay. The random misfire thing can be a right nuisance too. my car generally works best when it is driven hard on longish runs - clears it out and prevents the coughing and farting. They pretty much hate gentle and town driving. Only time I had smoke issues was from a worn turbo and oil getting past the seals. I cured it by putting in a new turbo core.

Good cars, but sometimes difficult to like when they play up like this.
