Wet glow plug

Featured Replies

Changed a duff glow today, and whilst checking the others I noticed that one that was working was wet. Initially looked like oil but I think it's diesel and soot. Is this a bad sign? No other symptoms, starts on the button and doesn't burn much oil.

I might be wrong but I would think that if it did have something on it, it had to have got onto it after the engine had stopped otherwise combustion would have burnt it off and if not, the glow plug heating up would have burnt it off also.

Are you going to let us know the details of the car and engine or is it a secret?

I guess that would be helpful! It's an 07 Octavia 1.9 4x4 and engine is BXE with 85k on the clock.

Do you know if it has a DPF? Does it smoke at all on start up?

No DPF fitted, I think these must have been one of the last without a DPF. I've not noticed any smoke at all on start up.
