Battery Replacement

Featured Replies

Hello,

I need to change my battery on my 1.9 TDI 2008 before the winter. It's the original and getting tired unsurprisingly.

Is the battery change a DIY job or best left to a garage. Should I have a power backup connected when swapping batteries?

Also any recommendations for good battery makes.

Thanks

Mikebs

Bosch or Yuasa battery. If you get a decent fast fit place to do it, then that means you don't have the problem of disposing of the old battery, and a 2 or 3 year warranty on the new one.

These days, there's no need for a backup.

Hello Ken,

thanks for your reply. Good point regarding battery disposal.

I got a 096 Varta Silver E44 Heavy Duty Car Battery 77AH SIZE 096 - 5 YEAR WARRANTY , its a bit of an upgrade on the original battery and it fits straight in the same as the original

Hello Jeff, thanks for the info. Did you install the battery yourself and where did you buy it?

Hi Mike, i bought it from batterymegauk through E-Bay. I bought it in January for £85 and its gone up a few quid since then. Yes i fitted it myself and like i said it fits straight in where the old one went, even the plastic cover thingy on top of the old battery is a straight fit. There are posts on here to show you how to get the plastic cover off which entailed inserting a thin screw driver  to release some plastic clips. Undo the nut at the bottom that clamps the battery on and thats pretty much it, nothing complicated about it at all .

Thanks Jeff, it seems straight forward so I'll probably buy a battery and fit it myself.

I got the same battery as Jeff TB. My old one was 10yrs old and was still ok, but last winter when i left the car in an airport car park for a week, i only just got it going. The car is usually garaged.

New battery just a straight swop.
