I was driving a rather new Karoq (SEL auto) downhill and on braking had a large letter 'R' on the display in front of the steering wheel.  It disssappeared very quickly but I was wondering if it is something to be checked.  Advice would be welcome. Thank you.

Are you sure it wasn't a 'P'?

 

I was pretty sure it was an R but the extra bits of red (as shown in your picture) look much the same.  SO, if I'm wrong and it was actually a 'P' what would that mean?

The owners manual shows this as black and white, but in reality it shows red in the car (I guess this depends on the specification of the central display). Nothing like an 'R', but its the only other red warning that I've experienced briefly illuminating...

I don't think so.  I had the radio on and was driving a route I've taken many times and slowing down (foot brake) from around 50mph to about 35mph fairly quickly.

Yes quite a loud three second beep when this sign is displayed.

That's the one I've had appear 3 times in the last 3 weeks - never appeared before in 16 months. I was alone on the road too (wide A road), with nothing in front of me at all.....

You've been lucky so far then, wait until it slams the brakes on for you, the red logo and bong will soon be a distant memory 

I guess so, not sure why it came on though 0 no risk of anything bad with plenty of open road.
