Has anyone fitted there own running boards ? If so what make are they and how easy to fit ?. 

The long and short of it:

 

The genuine Skoda running boards are a bespoke fit, high quality and perfectly match the contour of the sills, are properly sealed to the car and utilise the cars dedicated mounting locations. But they're expensive.

 

Aftermarket ones are a lot cheaper, but they involve hacking the underside of the car to pieces (see the video in the link below), are generally worse looking, suffer from early corrosion and are a long way off the levels of quality seen from the genuine boards.
