Smeary windscreen

Featured Replies

Any ideas how to get rid of my smeary windscreen (and rear screen). When it rains and the wipers are on there is a smear where the wipers go back and forth. Its been like this since I took delivery about 3 weeks ago but we have only recently had some rain where I live so havn't noticed it before.

I tried some glass cleaner on the rear screen but that didn't seem to make any difference.

The auto glym window cleaning stuff is good

or

Try vinegar, wiped off with newspaper to cut the grease away

yeh just try some quality glass cleaner to remove the pre delivery waxy film they leave, failing that i feel a warrenty claim along the lines of "my wipers dont work!"

Clean the wipers an all

Pointless having sparkling windows if your wipers are full of crap:D

i 've always used vinegar to clean my wiper blades.just pour a bit onto a cloth and wipe the wiper blades with it.

It might be worth finding out whether they put RainX on.

Also use vinegar to clean the blades. For the screen I wash any grit off and then dry with a microfibre cloth, then polish with a fresh dry microfibre cloth, will feel 'sticky' to start with but when all grease has gone cloth will slip easily over the screeen , seems to stop all smearing.

Thanks for your comments.

I've tried the vinegar treatment on my rear screen/wiper which is worse that the front but that didn't seem to make much difference.

I had an old can of holts mixtra to remove traffic film and that has helped a bit. So am wondering whether a combination of use (pray for more rain which would be handy for the garden etc) and cleaning might clear the problem.

On the question of rain x on my old car I used to use it to keep to side windows clear - never used in on the front or rear - but I see from the instructions on my old bottle that is says not to use on coated surfaces. The windows on my octavia are tinted does this means they are coated and therefore I cannot used rain x on them or is the window itself tinted all the way through and therefore rain x is safe to use?
