I have a 2015 Octavia Estate 1.2 petrol approx 21k miles.

 

I've got a strange one here.  I just went to get into my car after work.  The engine started as normal, as I went to drive off it immediately stopped.

 

now I can longer start it.  Then engine doesn't try to turn.   What is stranger is that even though the car is switch off and the doors locked, the cluster appears to be frozen with some lights still lit.  The maxidot dsplay in the middle though is completly blank.  Radio works etc.

 

Where do I begin looking with this one?

Apologies for all the typo's in there, I can't find out how to edit my post!

I would first suspect the battery.  Try attaching a jump start unit/anonther cars' battey to it.  Before you try to start your car, see if everything electrical behaves properly while this second battery is attached.

Thanks for the reply and apologies for the delay. I'm now up and running but will post what happened in case it benefits anybody else.

 

I got the car towed to my local garage.

 

He got the car running by simply disconnecting the battery. Before doing this he took some readings and apparently there were loads of multiplex errors. To cut a medium length story short, technical bulletins advise that this is usually due to one of 3 things.

 

1. Wiring loom in passenger door.  This was checked and no fault found.

 

2. Fault with the instrument cluster, though usually only seen when the car has been sitting in hot weather for a length of time.  This scenario was tried to be replicated in the garage but no fault got generated when heating the cluster.

 

3. A software update to the BCM which also updates the instrument cluster software.  We've gone for this option but won't know for certain until time passes.

 

Hope this helps other people but I'll also now be keeping a 10mm spanner in my car in case I need to get it going again quickly by disconnecting the battery.
