Brakes groaning!!

Featured Replies

When I start out I have to hold on an incline to go onto the main road.  The brakes groan loudly and even when I use the handbrake to hold.  Is this normal?  If not what could be the cause as its still under guarantee!!  Only had it a few months.  Didn't have this on my previous Yeti!!  This is petrol - previous was diesel.

Thanks

It might be a bit of glazing from very gently use and combined with fist cold application.

I agree with Ryman.  I have a steep drive and the brakes on mine groan loudly when I start out.  I believe it's just a function of brake pad compound and nothing to worry about.

The brakes on my first Roomster (diesel) tended to groan in the same way, while the brakes on my second Roomster (petrol) were near silent.

I can't remember. Does your car have a manual 'box? I've had similar noises from automatics where cold idle is fast enough to pull lightly against the brakes.

I get this pulling away from being parked on a hill, presumably just as the 'hill hold' lets go. I'm not worried about it.

p.s. - mine's DSG.
