New member with auto locking problem

Featured Replies

Hello, we are new to this forum, and relatively new owners of a 2015 Skoda Yeti which mostly we are loving. However the central locking seems to have a life of its own. In particular when driving it will unlock and lock repeatedly regardless of how we set things in the Convenience settings menu. Also, sometimes the convenience menu in settings disappears altogether.  Is this a know issue? If anyone can suggest anything that might before we take it to a dealership we would be extremely grateful, best jon and ali.

Welcome to the forum Jonandali,

I don't recall if your issue has been highlighted on here. The convenience menu disappearing I am wondering if this is happening in the background while you're driving and is causing the unlocking/locking issue though you can't have the settings menu while the vehicle is moving to check this. Hopefully somebody may come on here and have more ideas.

Thanks for the response and welcome. We posted the issue on here because we are hoping it's just something silly we are doing and/or whether it is an issue others have experienced although searching online and on this forum suggests it is unusual 😞 Do you (or does anyone) know whether there is a way to fundamentally re-boot the software beyond restoring factory settings in each menu? Thanks so much!!

I don't suppose you are leaving anything between the front seats just in front of the handbrake lever, glass case, wallet, handbag etc?  There's a small rocker button there between the gear leaver and the handbrake.  Push one side and doors lock, other side and they unlock.  Now, if anything happens to be left on top of this the results could be random unlocking or locking... Best to eliminate the simplest and cheapest causes first.

Secondly the settings menu will disappear.  This is a safety feature, you can't mess about with the settings whilst the vehicle is in motion, so there is no temptation to take your eyes off the road to tinker with settings.

Some say to disconnect the battery for about 30 mins when they have wanted to reset other things like the satnav, or remove the fuse for an individual item. If you do this you may need to set/reset a few other things like the windows.

I've just had a thought, because the settings are specific to the ignition key which was in when making any changes, Do you have the same issues with the other key?

Thanks for the suggestions widdershins. The rocker switch you refer to is definitely in the clear although a good thought, and we know the settings menu disappears when driving. What we're experiencing is the options under the 'Convenience' menu vary. Sometimes the whole list is there and sometimes options disappear. Spooky.

And thanks again for your reply RickT. We'll try disconnecting the battery.  The ignition key idea is an interesting thought: we had wondered whether the battery might be low in the fob and if so whether that could interfere with anything, although we think the erratic menu suggests it might not be that -who knows though?  The other key is with another family member so will try and do a swap when we next see him and check that out.

Thank you. Will report back if we discover anything

Just a quick update. Disconnecting battery has not helped and we have swapped fobs but that hasn't helped either. We have also superficially looked at the wiring in each door to see if there is an issue there (broken wires etc) but that also seems ok, although a closer look there might reveal something.  We're still seeing menus appear and disappear and currently the locks unlock repeatedly at worst every few seconds or so but at best maybe once a minute.  Thanks again for suggestions. Will post back here when we finally resolve this whether by ourselves or by taking car to a skoda garage.

The wires break in the loop between the door and frame and is a known issue in early cars. It would be difficult to access and check this part of the harness as inside a protective cover. Hopefully yours has the improved loom with a longer loop to prevent this issue?

Thanks Ken, This is how ours looks. Can you tell whether it's older one or not?

That's the newer upgraded version.

OK thank you for letting us know. We'll probably take the car in to be looked at next week

Quick update, although inconclusive. We went to a garage who suggested we take it to the dealership as although diagnostics threw up some problems they didn't really know how to act on them.  Two days before we were due to go into the dealership we accidentally hit a big pot hole while driving and since then the car has been behaving totally normally.  We can only assume that something righted itself as a result of the bump and wait to see if/when the problem returns.  Thanks for various thoughts and suggestions along the way and we are posting this info in case it can be useful although appreciate it's rather indeterminate.

So potholes can be useful after all 😂

I’ve had the same issue with my Yeti. On speaking to a mechanic friend, he advised to turn off the feature and turn it on again. This did the trick and I’ve not had issues since.

Hi all, I have a similar issue with my Yeti central locking switch. Acting to lock works perfect but unlock rocket switch does work at all. I need to open driver door or press fobb button witch is very inconvenient. Any suggestion before disassemble central console and replace button. Already reprogram by settings menu but no success.

Thanks for the suggestion DRGW; we had tried this along the way to no avail, but perhaps it can help someone else, and thanks too to zecasan. As we said before the problem has stopped since hitting a pot hole (!) and so we'll just wait until it comes back before taking further steps.
