Tps sensor

Featured Replies

Hi i recently done a diagnostic check and got code p0121 pedal demand sensor a circuit range/performance just wondering if anyone has got this before or know about what it could be, when googling it i have seen tps sensor but havent a clue where it is or how to check if its that, any help would be much appreciated thanks.

Could be a fault with the throttle pedal but needs the wiring checking back to the ECU.

How do i go about getting that checked? Cheers

Go to a a dealer or an independent garage and book it in for them to diagnose it.

Using  Odis service fault code

P012100 indicates an issue with G69 throttle valve potentiometer  (in V157) implausible signal. (Other code readers may have different wording)

Remove the boost pipe at the front of the engine, use a mirror (not your fingers as the flap can close quickly! chop chop 😳

If it is clagged with black carbon goo, you need to remove the valve to clean it.

I use a plastic narrow trim tool to gently scrape the worst away into a plastic back while the carbon is dry ish. Then I use brake cleaner rather than carb cleaner to clean up the flap and body. Make sure it is spotless, no carbon around the flap or mating surface or it can stick either open P211100 or when closed P211200 both can be with the P012100 or without.

Spotless valve and new seal ready to refit, before you do, the reason it gets so clagged is where the EGR comes into the plastic manifold, the gases are directed at the throttle flap. The nozzle needs to be removed and rotated 180 degrees so it is pointing away from the flap.

The nozzle is mechanically coded ( posh way of saying it only fits one way), a small mod to the body of the nozzle needs to be carried out to allow it to sit correctly in the housing.

If you look at the nozzle a small notch can be seen on one side, you need to file a notch the same on the opposite side.

Refit all parts after cleaning and carry out basic setting of V157.

I will be doing this soon on my car so I will take some pictures to make it clear.

Avoid getting any brake cleaner or carb cleaner in the electronics cap, workshops sometimes suspend the valve in an ultrasonic cleaner, but only submerge the flap and body, not the electronics cap.

The reason I prefer brake cleaner is it makes much less mess and doesn’t seem to spread the carbon around as much.

Once the black horrible goo has gone, yes go over it with carb cleaner if you like.

Experience cleaning these things will save you the mess, but find out for yourself if not convinced.

I removed and cleaned my valve today, took lots of photos which I will post soon.

it has done less than 50K and the EGR nozzle was clagged up, but I’ve seen much worse.

Link to how to clean it:

Scan tools can lead you astray as their fault code library may be slightly different to the factory diagnostics like seen here as it is referencing the pedal where the fault is in the throttle body V157.

Tip to save you time is to block the boost pipe opening below the throttle body as those T30 bolts or the dipstick 10mm bolt can disappear down there very easily.
