how to remove decorative sill plastic

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have owned 2006 year vRS estate for about two months now, and I have noticed few rust spots. The ones that concern me are below(pictures).

The question is how to remove these decorative plastics? How are they connected to the sill(double sided tape?). For some reason I couldn't find anything on google. Maybe I was searching with wrong words.. 😓

They look like after market sill guards i bought some for my Octavia they are held on with double sided tape

and they will be a sod to get off, if you intend keeping them try warming them up with a hair drier  that might

help save them.

Should I use some kind of cloth on top of the plastics so it wouldn't deform?

Do you know what kind of double sided tape it was(i'm planning to put them back)?

3 m double sided tape you can buy off E- Bay or Halfords sell it .

I ruined mine trying to get them off and ended up buying new ones in hindsight,i think what i would use

is something like very strong fishing line or nylon ribbon like you get round parcels, try and get it

underneath the plastic trim and use a sawing motion side to side while pulling back might be hard to do

but may not cause any damage.

Okay, thanks for tips. I'll update once I've removed them.

Try dental floss behind using a sawing back and forth motion. I've done this with stuck on number plates.

Or fishing line. I always heat these type of things up with a hairdryer as said before.

I'm facing the same issue with my sills on an L&K model but mines are factory fitted ....

I'm considering the method I used to replace my grill badge which was boiling water to soften and adhesive then a metal bladed ice scraper to work under the edge and attempt to lift the plastic
