Rear suspension creak / suspension fault

Featured Replies

My sons Citigo Monte Carlo 2016 has had a suspension creak for some time. I think it may have been there from soon after collecting the car from the dealer. He drives with stereo on so no chance of him detecting when it started.

The car has been in FOUR times to Skoda to two garages  and they either refused to fix under warranty or now say it’s wear and tear. It is particularly noisy when a passenger is on board. One dealer had a very good mechanic that had seen this fault before and did replace bushes and the noise stopped for a short while but has returned. This mechanic made it clear that if noise returned then shocks would need replacing under warranty. I took car back to same dealer but mechanic has left and they now say wear and tear.

It is quite shocking that Skoda are refusing to fix such an obvious fault. I have had an independent mechanic check the car and he said rear shock is vibrating internally under load indicating a failure.

I have complained to skoda customer services but they seem to be unable to sort this out other than discuss with dealer. I plan to take to yet another Skoda dealer to get another opinion. That will be FIVE times,,

if you check the internet then then there are quite a few reports of shock failures with this failure replaced under warranty so I don’t understand why I am having such a problem getting car fixed. Anyone sitting in this car gets a very bad impression of Skoda quality.

I have two two classic cars Porsche 911 carrera 1976 and a 1971 kit car none of these old cars have any creaks in suspension. It’s a bit of a joke to ask a customer to accept this as wear and tear. Very embarrassing for Skoda

That's fair comment; I don't know where you are, but it might be possible to get the dampers tested on a dyno testing machine>

Our new citigo seesm to be quite noisy at the nearside rear on bumps, fine on a smooth road though.

I put that down to less noise insulation and rear wheels a lot nearer to the drivers seat? Didn't notice this on the demonstrator we tried before buying our car.

Are others like this, or could ours have a shock absorber fault?

The fault I have is an annoying creak that gets worse when passengers in back. Driving in town and with small changes in road surface it is noisy and annoying. Not what you would expect from a nearly new car

Mine has just developed this noise. It is now five years old . I haven't checked recently but I had the wheels off in April and the shocks were ok then.

My 66 plate Monte Carlo does the same, fine when only me in it (99% of time), but when wife in front passenger seat and 9yr old in back the rear suspension on n/s creaks. I think it’s a common issue and a feature of the car unfortunately.

No its not a feature. Yours will get worse and make this noise without passengers. If you check the internet you will see quite a few complaining and the issue is fixed by changing bushes and/or shocks. Yours has maybe just started but i can tell you its very annoying and should not be present on a car of this age. I suspect that there are a batch of shocks that are failing and this is what is causing the problem. From the complaints, I have read

Skoda have fixed this issue under warranty.

My cars due it’s 1st MOT and a service also in the next couple of month, and is covered under Skodas approved used warranty as I only bought it in January from the dealer, so hopefully this will be rectified (along with a very slight warped disc problem which I also common).

Just had my o/s rear shock replaced today n/s was done when i bought the the car last september ,driving on a road with a lot of small bumps the knocking & rattling from the back would drive me nuts.

What happened to the good old days when shocks were always replaced as a pair.

Anyway a quiet knock free car again😎

Yes. I am shocked that Skoda Seem to think this noise is acceptable. I have a 1976 911 Porsche and a historic lotus 7. Both these old cars have no creaks, rattles or suspension noise. I have been promised call backs from Skoda dealer 3-4 times now. Customer service on this issue continues to be  very disappointing.
