Do exhaust upgrades improve the MAS values?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

This is a question posed out of pure curiosity really of seeing two different readings from two different Octavia 4x4's Mass Air Sensors via VAGCOM.

My cars MAS flow apparently reads higher values compared to a friends car and we monitored mine (using the same laptop and VAGCOM software) on a hotter day!

My thinking is that the K&N panel filter on mine is responsible as it should effectively let more air flow through but my friend thinks its more likely to be the Blueflame exhaust Im running. His car is standard apart from an Upsolute remap.

Up until that I hadnt even considered that an aftermarket exhaust could affect the actual MAS readings as I assumed the reading were taken too far in advance of the exhaust having any effect.

So.... will an uprated exhaust actually improve the MAS readings?

Cheers,

Lee

What were the readings for the 2 cars ?

Here is my data:

Jabba remap and VRS exhaust.

both the intake and the exhaust are restricted on a standard car to a greater extent than that of a modified car so i'd expect a greater rate of air flow from doing both :)

I can see that an exhaust would help get rid of the gasses more efficiently but are we actually saying having an uprated outake system would also increase the MAF readings?

I'll find the figures in question also...

not saying just an exhaust would make a remarkable difference but free it up on both sides and i would expect an increase in airflow :)

i would also expect an increase in air flow from a re-map as the turbo would be sucking more air in
