1.2 burning oil

Featured Replies

Just bought a 1.2 AZQ mega cheap as it's burning oil badly, revving it causes heaps of smoke to come out the exhaust and driving it home from where I bought it it's used around half on the dip stick. So if min and max on the dip stick is 1 litre like on most vw group cars it's used half a litre in 25-30 miles.

It's very recently had the head skimed, new valve guides and head gasket. Maybes more il have to check the invoice. The garage thought it was the head making it burn oil but after all the work it's no different so tonight I carried out a compression test and these are my results

dry test

cyl 1: 155psi

cyl 2: 155psi

cyl 3: 145psi

wet test

cyl 1: 190psi

cyl 2: 185psi

cyl 3: 170psi

anyone know what a good and healthy compression is on these engines? Cyl 3 is down on both but wasn't really expecting all 3 cylinders to jump up in compression on the wet test.

was going to just throw a 2nd hand engine, then I thought I'd do the piston rings as heads been done and then I was thinking maybes the head was done by a cowboy.

So looking as if the piston rings are gone?

Yes.
