Temperatures

Featured Replies

So we have had a warm day yesterday. It was said Cambridge had 38c.  When I set off at 10.00 am the Skoda said it was 39c, three miles later it now reads 40c. Got on motorway and it went up to 50c. I know it was hot but not that hot , so seems the old Skoda is not accurate. In the cold I thought it was with that ping saying 4 or less c.

Re the 4*oC ping, that is air temp at grill or mirrors on some cars.  (remember in winter there can be Black Ice on the road and the air temp is not even as low as 4*oC)

Same with Temp at other times taken at what ever height above the ground..

F1 racing they will tell 'Track Temperature'  so Road Temperature & 12-18" above the road can be pretty hot.

Temperature from the Weather People is 'Air Temperature' at about 2 meters above the ground where the 'Grass / Ground temp' is taken.

40*oC Ambient temp and sun splitting the pavement can have tar melting @ many degrees above Air Temp.

Stage 19 of the Tour De France today had to be abandoned due to a snow blizzard near the finish. Temperatures had plummeted from 40C yesterday to just 9C today in the Alps and they had climbed to 2,770 METRES.:notme:

  • john999boy changed the title to Temperatures

Also remember that weather forecast temps are thermometers in a ventilated box, so not in direct sunlight, so that all weather stations report from a similar environment to improve consistency..

It was hot enough here (Sussex for the moment) to crack my windscreen while the car was standing, first time ever in 43 years of motoring.

Will need a slightly better insurance than I have at present come renewal time.
