Mk1 VRS hesitation/flat spot

Featured Replies

Hi! New to Skoda’s and the forum, hoping the experts here can help! I’ve got an 04 Mk1 VRS and I seem to be getting a flat spot or hesitation between 3500 and 4000 revs, happens in all gears, if you power through from low revs it seems to have no problem but when you drop back from 4000 say to 3500 and then floor it again it will go flat between 3700-4000 then it picks back up and goes perfectly, same thing happens if you drop from 5th to 3rd say for an overtake and want instant power it just goes dead, car is completely standard, just serviced with new filters and plugs, recently replaced N75 and dump valve with oem parts, tried unplugging maf and that makes no difference, no boost leaks, turbo is boosting to correct pressure and no fault codes present. It’s driving me potty as it’s great the rest of the time but this just catches you out at the worst moments and for the life of me I can’t find the issue, have any of you had the same???? Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome to Briskoda,

Have you changed the fuel filter yet?. also, have you checked your breather pipes for any holes or splits, as it is a closed system on the 1.8t engine.

Hi Phil, yes I’ve changed that and no sign of any issues with any of the breathers....

Maybe try cleaning the throttle body. I had a vaguely similar thing that manifested particularly when dropping down to 2nd. The advice is to remove the whole body so you can clean both sides with throttle body cleaner. Probably worth buying a new gasket at the same time when you come to reattach.

Make sure you post in the MK2 section if that's your car, as this is the MK1 section. Make sure your car isn't mapped as this can also cause flat spots. :)

I have asked someone who has the same problem in a mk2 its just this sounds exactly the same as my problem and I'm not finding any info elsewhere so may aswell ask haha and as far as I'm aware mine isn't mapped
