Camshaft Position Sensor

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'm new here, so no idea if this was asked already, but I wasn't able to find it. Recently I had my car diagnostics done and the main problem was:

'[Hall Sender -G40-] P3007 Camshaft Position Sensor No Signal (Intermittent)'

It's a 2005 Skoda Octavia 2.0TDI 103KW, I tried looking online to buy this sensor, but I was able to find at least 3 different ones with the same name. Can someone please send me a link to the exact part which needs to be replaced?

@Z0000 - No idea about the part number, but I think it will depend on the engine code, which you've not stated.

Engine code is BKD

Hi,

I have had this fault for a while (same engine, I think). When engine is cold, starts first time even in winter (with no functioning glow plugs) but when it is hot, it takes a few turns to start. Doesn't seem to have got any worse (probably a couple of years now) but I am sure it needs doing !

I have heard that it is behind the timing belt and although it can be "got at" with the belt in place, its much easier if it isn't. Engine coming up for a timing belt change, so I am hoping that it won't cost a lot extra to change sensor at the same time. Don't fancy doing the job myself !

Cheers,

Lloyd

Get a genuine sensor via Briskoda parts

A change of battery will cure the anomoly, its cant be called a fault as its designed in, or you carry on putting up with it.

Its a low cranking speed which stops the injectors operating when hot but not when cold, as you know it will start in 1/4 of a turn when cold, with a higher cranking speed it will do the same hot.

My car battery is in a great shape and I’m sure the sensor is malfunctioning in some way, because it doesn’t matter if the engine is hot or cold, you can’t predict how fast it will start. Sometimes it starts cold in half a turn and sometimes it takes up to 10 seconds to start it hot. I thought it might be a starter problem, but starter works well. Also I’ve read about the other symptoms of bad sensor and they all match, so I’m looking forward changing it asap, since the timing belt has been already replaced recently. I still don’t know what exact part I need to buy, it being the whole point of this thread.

Sorry about that, I hadn't realised there were 2 people posting with the fault, you have the fault code so should of course change the sensor, my advice is more for Phoneman's description.

ZOOOO

I had confused you with the person with the starting problem, your sensor may be perfectly serviceable, I adjusted my cam timing this afternoon to reduce the torsion value from 3.9kw which is where the garage that did the cambelt for the previous owner had left it, I moved it a microscopic amount in one direction which took it outside of the limits displaye by VCDS, it read zero but I knew that I was not that lucky, it takes many minute adjustments, sure enough it had taken it beyond the 6kw I think that the ECU decides is "plausible"

So after finally nailing the correct 0 kw I checked the fault codes because I had run the engine without the boost pipe, no code for that but there was the exact same code that you have, camshaft sensor implausible value, deleted it and it has not returned.

So I would say to you find someone with VCDS to tweak the pulley first and to everyone in general, if you are going to have your timing belt changed by a garage make sure they are equipped for and patient enough to set the torsion value.
