Different shades of paint on front passenger door

Featured Replies

Hi all

New to the site so hello to you all.

I have a 2017 Octavia VRS in Meteor Gray which I bought a year ago.

Ive recently noticed that part of the paint on the front passenger door looks a shade or too darker than the rest of the car. Im 99.9% sure this wasn't the case when I bought it as surely would have noticed it. Since Ive had the car it hasn't had any work done on it i.e panel repairs.

Any ideas what has caused this or is it likely that it was like this when ilI bought it but didnt notice?

Appreciate any input

Welcome.

Best have the paint checked to see if as it left the factory or if 'repaired' previously, from the factory, in transit or before you got it and the repair is 'maturing' badly.

Paint thickness can be checked and shade and actual paint type.

?

Where was it bought from?

Hi

I bought it from Lookers Skoda in Guildford. Would they be able to check what you have suggested above?

Thanks

Any color mismatch means a body repair at one time. Can they check paint thickness and color match? Sure. Would they? I doubt it very much.

'They who did it are not going to check'.  Job was done, more than over a year ago.

Unlikely LOOKERS in GUILFORD could care less.  Kerbside Autos are maybe who they use..

Those the OP might go to to have it checked might have all the gear and more than an idea.

Up to the OP if he wants it resprayed but it would be at their own expense.

Thanks both.

Any idea on re-spray cost?

Are you referring to the part directly under the door handle?

Yes.

Yes.

Thanks,

Do you use snowfoam or a degreaser/all-purpose-cleaner as a prewash or for removing stubborn grime?

I ask because I've noticed that on my MG Superb, the area of the doors under the front handles (normally it's my drivers side) seem to be susceptible to a little bit of discolouration from what I think is where snowfoam has been driven into the hinge on the handle and caused some grease or similar to leach out over the coming days, causing some darker looking staining on the door.

Just a thought...

If it is the above that's causing it,  you could try something like this;

AG Fall Out Remover

It usually comes straight off on mine, during the next wash. It’s like a discoloured tide mark, rather than a full on stain.

Thanks both. I have used snow foam in the past but not regularly so don't think its that.

Took it back to Lookers Guildford and they have agreed there is discolouration and that there are no signs of damage/repair. Warranty officer is going to look at it tomorrow, take paint depth readings and then discuss with Volkswagen. Fingers crossed!
