Driving style in an EV ?

Featured Replies

tl;dr - Think ahead, use engine braking, don't use air con at low speed - So like any other car then.

Also plan different routes I would reckon.

ICE cars are worse in towns as even with stop/start the system has to chuck several Kj of energy, more for diesels than petrol of course to overcome higher compression ratio, to keep restarting the engine.s.

EV just reconnects power and no large crank and flywheel to get up to 15 rev per second. Moments of Inertia as I recall my Mech Eng.

We know ICE will use their energy store at a much higher rate when aero resistance become significant ie over 60 mph so good to take that A road which might be shorter rather than the motorway that might be quicker but is longer.

I am keep to prove I can get at least the EV's WLTP mileage and even do better than as I do with my ICE Octavia.  From EV forums they seem to be saying 20 to 30% more range driving around an indicated 60 mph on A roads rather than 75 mph on motorways.

Would make a lot more different than keeping an empty boot and being frugal with air con I would have thought.
