Strange noise, can anyone identify it? ('Woooooouuh')'

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My octavia 2014 1.2 tsi has been making this strange noise since I got it last year. The dealership have checked the diagnostics and found no faults.

It seems to happen randomly, but my suspicions are something to do with the aircon. If i turn the aircon off the noise stops (usually). The aircon seems to work fine.

Sometimes the noise happens whilst driving, and sometimes just after the car has been turned off, lasting for about 3-5 seconds.

Anyone else have this problem, or know what it is? I'd rather have an idea before giving it to the mechanic to pull things apart trying to find it.

Thanks!

Sound like you have seal family in your motor :D

It sounds like a vent opening but it's rubbing as it does.

It's a bit of a joke that your dealership just put a diagnostic tool on it and said "sorry, no faults = no problem".

You're probably right, it will likely be one of the air con vents.

Maybe recirc or air care?

I'd just sit there and play with all the available settings on the air con in the hope of isolating the noise.

Sorry I couldn't hear anything but the fog horn in the background.  When you get off the ferry can you please make another video.

Sounds like the TX valve on the aircon system chattering. It's a device located just inside the cabin behind the dash that provides an in-line resistance to the air-con gas pressure so that heat can be taken off the system before it leaving cold gas behind it. Sometimes they can ice up a little and get sticky. The noise is from it freeing up and refreezing very quickly. Not heard anything like that for 15 years mind! You might be able to feel the vibrations in the pipework under the bonnet when the noise occurs.

Moisture gets in due to poor maintenance. A regas might cure it but no promises!

If you know of a dealership that doesn't just do that, let me know.

They'll call themselves master technicians though, expecting to plug the machine in and have it say P0003456: random foghorn noise - replace left indicator bulb. Useless.

The days of car dealerships employing "real engineers" who can actually fault find without the aid of (limited) computer diagnostics are long gone - sadly :wall:

Sounds similar to a noise my MK2 FL model made - turned out to be the door seals - dealer adjusted the door - however, just noticed you're stationary!

I've trained up my Skoda Dealer - basically, I save myself £90 and provide them the diagnostic scan from my VCDS which is free for me and it gives them all of the info they need!

Had a couple of warranty claims where it came in super-useful.  I would suggest getting a ODBEleven (for scanning the car) and make sure you do a full scan and send it onto your dealer so they know what they are coming into.

Hey Man!
Have you found out the cause of the problem at the end?
