Potential purchase

Featured Replies

Looking at buying a 2016 VRS Octavia 2.0 TDI, registered Mar 2016. It has high mileage 93K, with FSSH. Not had timing belt/water pump done yet. Anything I should be wary about as heard about water pump problems but pretty sure sure that was the pre 2015 models. Any help/thoughts greatly appreciated.

To have done that sort of mileage in 3 years I'd hazard a guess a lot of them were motorway miles ( unless you know to the contrary eg Taxi?). Has it got FSH?

I'd factor in for timing belt & tensioners etc, water pump, filters including fuel filter,  possibly a set of brakes plus anything obvious you can see eg tyres?

If the price is right it might be ok...??!!

Check the windscreen very carefully in sunlight to see if badly covered in tiny chips.

What is the FSSH, is it Variable Services near every 20,000 miles.

Did the 2nd service have a Pollen Filter changed, a Air filter changed, Fuel Filter, then again at the 4th Service.

Has the Brake Fluid been changed, Pads / Discs, i take it 4 good tyres fitted.

A FSSH often shows how little a Main Dealer Service has getting done on Fleet / Lease Cars.

Water pump and belt will need doing asap - I wouldn't buy unless it's done. Mine is May 2016 and had the overheating issue at about 40k miles.

Is it DSG? Again, check to see if that has had oil changes at roughly 40 and 80k.

At 93k I'd be budgeting for shocks and drop links too, also check brake discs as mentioned above - unlikely to have lasted 93k, but what are the replacements like now?

Full Skoda service history

18/10/2016 and 04/07/2017 oil changes

21/03/2018 oil change, diesel fuel filter and air cleaner element

20/11/018 oil change and dust and pollen filter

Discs and pads came up as advisories on last MOT so factored them in to price, will also get timing belt and water pump done if I purchase. Got printouts sent to me with last MOT and service history printouts.

Its manual, going to look at it this week so will be able to have a good look at it and a test drive.

£9800. Thoughts on price??

  • 3 weeks later...

I've just bought a 2016 vrs with 70k miles. It was £9995.  Was looking at one with similar mileage but was £11000. The only difference is mine is green. It wouldnt be a colour I'd normally choose but as it was £1000 cheaper I'll learn to love it! The cam belt was changed on it at some point but not the water pump. I've had it five weeks and has overheated twice so it's back at the garage at the moment being fixed under the used warranty.

Strange not doing the water pump at the same time normally standard fare for VAG belt change at mileage.
