BC Module failure - possible reasons??

Featured Replies

I bought my Octavia about 45 days ago..for the first month everything was excellent

But then I went to recomended car alarm expert for Cobra alarm installation..this guy is car electrician and I have been told that he is the best in my region

After one week my problems started..one day after work I went to market and everything was ok.. but after that when I pressed start/stop button to start the car..it started but all possible warning lights went ON..I paniced and turned the car off..went outside and locked it..unlocked and tried again..only red steereng wheel lamp went ON no other..car started but instantly, after one second turned off...I tried few more times but it was all the same

I suspected it was the battery in key fob because that steering wheel lamp went on (in orange color, not in ted like now) every time I get in car since I have bought it...keyless system and that was the sign of key recongnition

After battery changed, all the same..also, when I lock the car, the front doors and trunk stay unlocked, only back door locked

Then I remember of my cobra alarm and called the guy..he came, tried VCDS but nothing, no comunication whith any module..because we can not, how can I say this, semi start the car..to do the diagnostics

We pulled the car to his workshop..after two days he called me and said that the BC module broke down and need a replacement

After he done that, he got NO KEY RECOGNITION message on board so he had to do coding in local Skoda dealer service..and then it worked..my key was coded to new BCM

But after another week, everything happened exactly the same..like copy/paste

We are now searching for another used BCM..he will take tha Cobra alarm out and then we will se will it happen again...but he is absolutely sure that it is not his fault and that the alarm system is ok..because he had install hundreds of them and never had this problem

Until then, does anyone had similar problems..what can cause BCM to brake down twice in 10 days???

Sorry for long post but I wanted to be detailed..and sorry for bad english

What are the details of your Octavia, model, age, mileage etc?

Where are you based, in the UK?

Where did you buy the car, Skoda main dealer or independent garage? What warranty do you have?

The issues started very soon after an aftermarket alarm was integrated into the cars electronics system. Coincidence? Possible, but unlikely.

Let the installer remove the system and replace the BCM for a second time. If this fixes the issue then you know the fault is with the installation.

If it doesn't, and after answering the earlier questions you will need to return the car to where you bought it from.

I bought used Octavia and don't have warranty..I am located in Bosnia and Herzegovina..and really don't have an option of car return

So if it is not from alarm, how to find out what is the problem??

It is highly likely that the first and second BCM logged fault codes before failing. Did the Cobra installer share these with you?

Even better would be the full VCDS scans if you can get hold of them...
