No Diesel?

Featured Replies

I was surprised to see that the Scala doesn't offer any diesel models in New Zealand.. is this the case over in the UK and Europe as well?

I feel like it would be quite good to have a 1.4 or 1.2tdi option with a manual - especially since they discontinued the diesel manual Fabia here too.. 😒

Why would New Zealand want to ruin the environment with the clatter of these?

The 1.6 TDI can be ordered and the 1.0TSI,

but not yet the Kangarooing 1.5 TSI EVO (Evil.)

You lucky buggers get all the good stuff! That's a shame.

Just for reference we have a lot of diesels, but the majority are Japanese 🤮

That will be them getting sales of the Japanese Diesels that they could no longer punt to the UK then.

The 1.6 TDI / SCR's days are numbered.   (The euro 6 1.4 TDI 3 Cylinder was a disaster really, after many decades they still could not source a decent water pump, blame the coolant!!!)

They are just using up the production lines, and they will need to get the new manual boxes in them.

Hopefully they have after more than a decade sorted the DQ200 DSG's.

Had no idea the modern 1.4 was so bad. I've got a 1.6 with a DQ200, it's far from being as good as the old VE37 pump 1.9s with a 5 speed, but it's done the job for 250k km. Over here Skodas of the vintage are worth close to nothing, so I'm driving this one to the ground!

In 2012 when the DQ200 DSG World Wide Recall excluded Europe the Service Campaign in New Zealand was a Recall as there were so few cars with the DQ200 DSG and all got a new MCU, and the oil change and software update.

It took till 2014 before a Service Campaign in Europe (UK), just oil and software and plenty of those from 2009-2012 have failed since, then some late 2012 that got no Service Campaign,

then there was another for DQ200 DSG from 2013-2015, only some got that, some are failing prematurely.

Then some with Clutch Issues 2014/2015 on to 2018 with DQ200's.

Another Software Update available, & new Clutches, and there it should end, but no,

1.5TSI Manuals had issues, and so did some 1.5 TSI's with the DQ200 DSG.  Only VW were not admitting that even though they supplied courtesy cars because cars losing drive can kill people.

I wish mine was taken to the recall, wasn't too happy when my mechatronics unit decided to end itself at highway speed on me.

Were you aware of the 'Service Campaign'?   I used to link the Skoda NZ site on this in the 'News', but it was deleted a few years back and a new site appeared.

What was called a Service Campaign was a full Recall in New Zealand, Skoda NZ said all leepers would be informed and said it would take 4 hours.

In Europe it was 2 hours.

I've only owned the car since mid 2017 so I was not - one of the other members on here pointed it out to me a while back on a different topic. The 4 hours doesn't surprise me considering the uselessness of NZ mechanics.

The 4 hours was because a New Mechatronic Control Unit was getting fitted, road test etc.

Safety Critical in New Zealand as in other world regions.

Danger to life.   Just not in Europe.   Some regions like China / USA got an Extended Warranty as well.

I would have expected in New Zealand if any car was missed or the owner never wanted the work the Service Campaign / Recall is outstanding,

& seeing so few of the cars with the Service Campaign Required, Skoda NZ still responsible if the DQ200 DSG's from 2009-2011 went wrong.
