1.9 TDI PD camshaft replacement - parts

Featured Replies

Hey guys!

So I'm pretty sure my camshaft has started wearing out... The idle is rough, the oil analysis is horrible (iron is very high), I can hear the tappet noise at higher rpm, so it'll probably need replacing soon.

Can you recommend me the parts I'll need and if you have experience with these brands or have any suggestions for better ones?

In case it will need replacement, I had these parts in mind:

Tappets - INA black

Camshaft bushes - Glyco (or is Kolbenschmidt better?)

Camshaft seal - Elring teflon (or perhaps Corteco, SKF?)

Injector O-rings - Bosch

I'll buy the tandem pump gasket and the injector hold down bolts from the dealer. Should I also buy genuine rocker arm shaft bolts and locating bolts from the dealer or are the Febi Bilstein ones fine?

The camshaft is probably going to be from GT automotive. Forged steel is better than chilled cast, right? I'm a bit unfamiliar with the terms, is forged steel same as steel billet?

I appreciate all suggestions.

Hi! did you manage to change the camshaft? I have a 2007 Fabia VRS Mk1, I have the same symptoms, how did you solve the problem?

I’ve recently done a camshaft on a 1.9tdi, I guess if your going to keep the car for a very long time then find the best you can with INA lifters and billet cam as the list above.

I however fitted a FIA kit for £150 off eBay, the car wasn’t in for the camshaft but I found it upon trying to remove the camshaft seal, so it was an unexpected cost to the owner.

the kit came with everything needed and it’s now running much better, no need to change injector rocker bolts, they have been measured to not stretch much from the oem torque specs, if they have been off a few times then maybe consider it, but the cam cap bolts will need replacing and are in the kit.

I can’t comment on longevity because it’s the first kit I’ve fitted and only a couple of weeks ago, it does come with a 12 month warranty though so I’m hoping that it should at least last 50k with standard servicing.
