Re alignment after coils spring change

Featured Replies

Hi folks I've had my octy for years I keep trying to save money to change it but never seems to happen lol every year it passes  mot generally with not much wrong

Last year I had eml light on codes said bank 1 sensor lambda I had if changed deleted codes it lasted a week then came on again?  I had it turned off day of mot and it passed

A year later driving with eml light on another 15.000 miles I think slightly higher fuel consumption due to it going to default mode ?

A few months ago one of the front coil springs broke I kept driving for a while . Bought the springs £37 but my mechanic kept saying he was busy I left it   but just realised the mot had ran out a month ago.  I  paid a local scrap yard cum workshop  to change them for £70 then erase fault codes again for nothing; ) it passed but advisory on play in r/h balljoint and tyre wear near limit.

Online it says change as pairs but both the scrappie and the mot centre said only needs changing on thd defective side ? I am still not too sure as Google says the other side will wear out at same rate so save on having to do alignment twice in quick succession it's better to change both ? I also obviously need new tyre suggestions please?

Always replace stuff in pairs.. otherwise youll end up with uneven reactions to events, which could make a minor moment become a much worse new underpants moment..

For the sake of the cost change the ball joints in both sides, just as u assume you changed both springs..

As to the lambda problem, what were the codes? May be a simple fix too...

You only need to fix the defective side to pass the MOT, but it is recommended to replace both sides where shocks and springs are concerned for optimum handling and to save doing the alignment twice in close succession. The spring on the other side could last another 2 days or 2+ years.

What size tyre do you need? Have a look in the tyres section for recommendations. In general I would recommend replacing tyres in axle pairs.
