Rad fan stays on

Featured Replies

Hello all, noob here, just created. An account to ask about a specific issue. My wife has a 3 door Citigo.   2013 automatic, petrol.   I drive it to work now and then.  A few months back I got to work, turned off the engine and noticed that that engine fan was still on, I just assumed the engine needed more cooling down and would go off when needed. I was wrong.   Finished work and the battery was dead.   I managed to get it jumped and was on my way.    This problem happened again several weeks later, I turned the engine on and off a few times and it stopped.  It happened again this afternoon and it won't go off, I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stopped.    I'm assuming I need a garage but does anyone have any clue as to the problem?  My first thought is a faulty thermostat.  I'm not overly mechanical but it seems a logical guess.    Any ideas welcome.

Luke.

I'd say If it doesn't overheat it is not thermostat issue. More like sensor issue. Or something wrong with module which put radiator fan on.

Or dirt and dead insects in radiator fins. But this shouldn't drain the battery. Fan should stop at some point.

I'd check for a faulty fan relay first. They can get stuck "on".

Thanks.   I consulted my mechanic and he mentioned the relay too.

Let's hope a relay is to blame as it is likely to be, by far, the cheapest, easiest thing to fix (of all other possibilities)!
