"Impression depth" regarding snow chains/wheels

Featured Replies

Hey,

Having a read of the manual, with regards to snow chains, it talks about impression depth - no amount of googling has enlightened me to what this actually is?

I bought a set for my previous car (also 205/55/16) and appear to have more clearance between tyre and body than that vehicle.

The Skoda eshop page for the Ilias alloys state not for use with snow chains.

An update! I think the English manual has been translated a bit wrong - looking at the French manual, it refers to "ET", which then of course makes sense in relation to alloy wheels. The Ilias alloys have an ET of 46mm, the minimum ET for snow chains (no larger than 12mm) is 48mm on 205/55/16 wheels.

The chains I have are 9mm, I will test fit them at some point to check clearance  inside the arches / driveline components and update the thread.

Edit: My dad has just hit the jackpot, ET - Einpress Tiefe - translated directly meaning dent/impression depth.

@micro   What have you found out? I also have Ilias alloys with 205/55-16 and have just bought snow chains (9mm), but now I am curious if I can use them or not.

Hi mate,

Sorry, i haven't got round to it yet. I'll have a look tomorrow - it will only be a fitment test though as I can't drive with the chains on on my driveway so they won't be perfectly centered.

Cheers,
