Another DMF Thread!

Featured Replies

I know this has been done to death, but bear with me.

I think my flywheel is going on my Octy, it's a 2007 on it's original clutch and flywheel on 167000 miles.

There is no slipping but a lot of judder on take off. I'm led to believe this is the flywheel dying.

I spoke to Skoda in Newport who are adamant that they would not perform a conversion to SMF. My local VAG specialist said they would do it for £300+ vat if I supply the parts.

Am I right in thinking Skoda should be willing to do the job as per previous threads?

They wanted £1057 for replacing the DMF btw. Colour me suspicious but I think that has something to do with their unwillingness to do the conversion.

Whether its the flywheel or the clutch it doesn't make sense doing one without the other anyway.

For comparison my local independent, Darkside Developments sells the SACHS DMF+clutch kit for £330 inc. VAT and fitting is £240 inc. VAT.

If Skoda aren't willing take your business elsewhere

Thanks,

It's just strange that SUK are'nt willing, but it's seen as the go-to repair for the DMF now to change for a SMF. That said, I've not had a good experience with Capitol Skoda in Newport, wouldn't even sell me a hub socket!

That price seems very reasonable, I think I can get a Valeo kit for something similar

I suppose a SMF is not an official repair so they might be trying to cover their arses in case of problems in the future.

Its each to their own I suppose, like you say, it used to be a go-to repair but these days when DMFs are dirt cheap I didn't think people bothered. I had a very good experience with a Valeo SMF conversion on a golf but if I had to do a clutch again I would stick with the DMF, if you treat the car with sympathy I don't think DMF problems are very common, you have sen first hand that they can last a very long time
