Maxton side skirts

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I recently bought some skirts for the car. Fitting instructions online said no drilling required. I had an idea this wasn’t true.

But they want to put 10 self tapping. Screws into the cill?!  Has anyone put these  on without doing that? Made up brackets to suit old holes etc?

Well, if you need to use self-tappers you need to drill at least pilot holes. So your parts are not "as described".

It may be possible to fit then using GRP coremat techniques, but you need someone who's honest and knows GRP techniques to help/advise you further.

Give the area a dam good clean (car and skirts) then rough up with a kitchen scourer. Panel wipe down a couple of times. Then use black window primer on both parts(this bit is important). Once dry use windscreen sealer or panel bond (dont use cheap rubbish from halfords and dont be shy with it. Wants to be about 10mm high in a pyramid shape) put it in place and wedge it up and leave alone till the next day. Only down side is when it's on it's on.

That sounds like a reasonable shout if it's a cheap old car. But not sure I'd want to take a kitchen scourer + permanent adhesive to anything as new / valuable as an Octy 3.
