North Wales VCDS help?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys/Girls,

Hoping someone from North Wales/Midlands can offer some assistance.

I have a 2014 Octavia VRS TSI that has an extremely intermittent and annoying problem. I made a thread about it here:

Long story short; The car has an intermittent misfire only at idle, and only when the engine is cold. I've replaced all 4 plugs, and the coilpack on a cyclinder that logged an misfire via 'P' code in OBD2.

The car has been fine for about 1 week but now the issue is back and no error codes are being logged, so I figure VCDS might provide more answers? Specifically the misfire counter.

I could be wasting my time and problem wont manifest as when warm the car is absolutely fine, and even when it's cold the issue is rare.

I don't have a VCDS cable myself so I'm hoping someone on here can offer a hand? Happy to pay with beer etc.

I'm located in St Asaph, North Wales.

Cheers!

I’m based in Bangor and I am happy to plug my OBDEleven or VW dealer level ODIS in and check the codes and live data if it starts to misbehave. Even if it doesn’t misbehave on the day I can still see what it says (will try and get the ODIS running and scanning on my car first though so please give me a couple of weeks to get that all nailed down on a new PC) I can code in some extra features for you while you are here if you want?

Hey Sasha,

That would be great! The issue doesn't affect the day-to-day running of the car so happy to wait a couple of weeks :) You're only up the road so happy to drive to you.

Really hoping there is some sort of error being logged that isn't present in OBD2 as there seems to be lots of reports of this problem (Especially in America) but no fix ever found.

Ideal. I’m super busy right now unfortunately, got brake upgrades in progress, way too much work stuff and only available at weekends at the moment although I’m currently commuting most days to Chester so could pop in on the way back on a weekday if needed. Busy this and next weekend and the Sunday after at Trax but by then I will have a suitable new Windows machine for ODIS and can use that as it’s the tool the dealer will use so it’s the best chance you will get to find the fault. If you find someone else to help in the meantime that’s great too. Ta :)
