Mp4 and Mp3

Featured Replies

I have a 68 plate petrol Fabia as a courtesy car while the Karoq is being looked at.  I notice that the Fabia will not play Mp4 tracks only Mp3, unlike the Karoq SEL DSG 4x4.  The music is on a memory stick in the USB socket like the Karoq.  Thought would be appreciated

MP4 is a video container format, it contains an audio stream (possibly MP3 but can be others) and a video stream (H.264 or something). The car may or may not play it depending on the head unit and what format the audio stream is.

If you want to ensure that your music will play, use a program to take just the audio stream from the MP4 and convert it into an MP3.

MP3 files are literally just a raw compressed audio stream with some meta-data for titles and artists, an MP3 is an MP3, but an MP4 can contain many secrets!

Thanks FabiaGonzales.

Changed all to MP3 on iTunes in my Mac.  Back to playing again.

Cheers
