3 rd brake light

Featured Replies

can any one help I have  a mk2 Skoda octiva vrs estate 2011 the 3rd brake have some led not working  I have the light light . how to  change it the other day and it look like it got a take gate spoiler fitted  and some of the light under spoiler can see how to get it off is it glue on  mike thank you

I removed the third brake light on our 2006 pre-facelift the other day, which has no spoiler on the hatch. Not the same car but likely similar.

I had to remove the internal boot trim with plastic non-marring trim removal tools and it had three plastic bolts on the light fitting that bolted onto the inside of the boot with a rubber seal, that had shrunk and was likely letting water in.

I added a little sealant on re-fitting.

Have a go at removing like that and then buy a new centre brake light.

Putting the rear trim back is a faff and not fun getting lots of clips in the right place at once!

I replaced mine on same year same model. Fairly straight forward:

1. Remove boot trim on the inside of the boot. You'll need to use plastic trim removers if you don't wanna damage them.

2. There will be two plastic nuts holding the unit on, as well as two clips from memory. Once unfastening them you should be able to loosen the unit. The window washer jet hose and electrical connector will need to be removed too.

3. Find a way to keep the washer hose and electrical plug from sinking into Oblivion. These have absolutely zero slack. Zip tie them together or something so they don't fall in.

4. Clean the cavity - because why not.

5.Removet the unit fully, and insert the new one.

6. Reassemble!

I also put a bit of silicon spray on the rubber liner of the new unit and let it soak in, just so water doesn't get in there like it did with the OEM.
