1.8TSi - suspension component advice

Featured Replies

Hi

I've been advised by the garage that the ball joint rubbers and bushes in the front track control arms are showing signs of wear, which is probably not unreasonable at 9 years and 145K miles. My offside outer CV joint boot has also just split slightly and will need doing.

I've tried looking up the correct parts on a number of car parts sites and seem to have the same issue with all of them, in that the correct parts for the TCAs are not very easy to identify. They specify parts for vehicles up to chassis number 1Z 7B 150822 but these appear to be cast steel items, whereas mine are pressed steel.

I would prefer a decent brand such as Lemforder (open to suggestions as to other good quality makes).

Can anyone assist with the correct Lemforder (or other quality option) part numbers for the following please (in each case, both left and right side are required):

Ball joints

Track control arms

CV boot kit including the retaining bolt

Thanks in advance.

Can't help with the CV boot.

AFAIK, the ball joints and control arm bushes are the same whether it is the cast  or welded LCA.  The mk 5/6 Golf parts fit too.

Given the amount of faffing about involved and the cost of labour, consider buying the whole arm with ball joint for ~GBP125 (probably cheaper at TPS).

If you are committed to changing bushes then get the Febi 33973 console bush as it's got less flex than the standard bush and makes the front a little tighter with no vibration trade-off.

Yes, that makes sense. I think I'm going to back to basics and refer back to the original part numbers, assuming they're still present on the arms.
