Instrument Cluster for Octavia vRS mark II - Revolutions Counter and Speedometer

Featured Replies

I've spent a good few hours in my new car now and there is very little that I do not like. I don't know if it's the same for non-vRS Octavia mark II's but one criticism I have, although minor, is the design and labelling of the digits in the instrument cluster.

The revolutions counter is written in tens multiplied by one hundred e.g 30 (x100). I would have preferred the simple 3,4,5 (x1000) revolutions so that there are not so many digits on display.

Also, the speedometer is a little odd in that it's not linear all the way round. I haven't taken the car above 80/85 mph yet (what possible reason would there be to go that fast? ) but I notice that up to 80mph the counter is linear in 10 mph steps and then it goes from 80 to 100, to 120 to 140mph for the same increase in needle angle.

I can understand why they may have done this but it can confuse the driver if they make a casual glance, thinking they're doing 85/90 when actually it's much higher. If you have driven at speeds above 80mph can you confirm whether the needle does slow down in its ascent or whether it feels no different to changing from 50 to 60.

sounds the same as the old octavia to me

The speedo is, rev counter isnt.

they do the speedo like that so they can make the numbers you look at more regular easier to read rather than cramming it all together to get the top speed on there.

Still if thats all thats bugging you it aint all bad is it :)

I found myself doing a 120 by accident and the acceleration is soooo smooth you do not notice. Be careful when you get to around 90 as it really does move!!!

Very interesting this speedo thing. Mine is scaled in km-s and linear all the way from 0 to 240. Cannot understand why it's non linear in mph units, since less range must be covered so there's more space for numbers.

Can U link a picture of Your speedo?

My OctyII vRS is in km/h too. The vRS speedo goes to 270, not 240, so they needed some way to squeeze the exstra speed onto the same space. I had an OctyII 2.0 FSi before and it was "only" graded to 240 km/h, so there is no need to change the stepping.
