Issues with a 1.9 TDI

Featured Replies

I've recently bought a 1.9TDI Y reg and it's got a few problems that I need to sort out.

The passenger side mirror doesn't move but the driver's side does, I assume this is the motor behind the mirror but not sure.

The driver's side window doesn't go down but I can hear/feel the motor running in the door so I assume the clips have broken?

Also I need a parcel shelf, passenger side bumper vent, sunroof switch panel and the interior boot trim but can't find anywhere to get these bits and I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure where to find people who are breaking them.

Any help would be fantastic, thanks 😀

@Adamt746 - Mirror. You don't say, but is the joystick in the passenger side adjust position?

Door window - Very probably.

Other parts - You can web search as easily as I can; easier since you know which trim level and colour you have.

It can be that the window motor is bad, and if you change it, it will fix the mirror to.

Or the cable has frayed.

Basically a new window regulator. Maybe 20-30 minutes to open up the door internals, get the old one out, swap the motor to the new one, install and reassemble.

New one - I used these guys for my OSF one just last week: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-1996-05-NEW-FRONT-ELEC-WINDOW-REGULATOR-LH-PASSENGER-SIDE-FRONT/112341911927?hash=item1a28198977:g:EGkAAOSwMtxXuud-

Great service and very happy.

Before you do anything or buy anything, check the obvious i.e. is the joystick in the right setting? Once confirmed that one side works and the other really doesnt, remove both upper speaker covers in the door (behind the mirrors). With the door open you will then see all three of the mirror mounting screws and should have access to the electric connections (You may need to remove the mirror totally and pull out the foam in the opening to get enough play). Remove the "faulty" mirror and test on the side that works. You will then know if its a mirror motor fault or a wiring/joystick problem.  A used colour coded mirror can be found on Ebay for about 45 quid.
