Which side is the lower coolant hose?

Featured Replies

Hi! I want to change the coolant in my 2007 1.9TDI, 4x4. It`s the BXE-motor, 105HP. In the manual there is a picture that shows the lower coolant hose, that I`m supposed to disconnect to drain the coolant. But It doesn`t look like that in my car. There are two lower hoses, both the same size it seems, one at the right, and one at the left side of the radiator. I was sure it was the left side, so I pulled the clip, and disconnected the hose, but no water comes out.. I enclose two pictures, in case anyone can confirm which hose is the lowe coolant hose. First picture is from the manual, second is right side, and third is left side.

I think that you will find that is the intercooler hose :D

If its any comfort you are not alone, last week while replacing the accident damaged aircon condensor I squeezed what I thought was the bottom rad hose to see if the coolant level rose in the overflow bottle, it didnt and the hose felt empty of fluid (it was) but only because it was the intercooler hose :speechless:

I just used the simple method of disconnecting the  upper hose on the expansion tank, extending this hose with a thinner hose, and putting the end in a bucket. Then running the motor, and add coolant to the expansion tank  (lid off) when the level got low. Will of course get some mixing with the old fluid this way, but this was very quick and easy to do, and no problem with air locks etc..
