Yet another seat belt warning chime - 59 Octavia Elegance

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've spent the last two hours trying to fix the drivers seat belt warning chime that comes on sometimes. We have the seatbelts on and then suddenly it'll start warning us. In the last two days its got worse so I thought time to do something.

I've searched through here and can see that there are various threads related to this problem.

Most people recommend using the VCDS, sadly looking at the map, my nearest VCDS person is approx two hours away in Bradford. I live in the Yorkshire Dales near Settle so a four hour round trip isn't really feasible.

Looked underneath the seat and can see what I think are the cables but the clamp that joins the wires together looks like a permanent (but complicated) plastic affair. I cannot separate the pieces and don't think they are designed to be.

I attach two photos that show the cables.

So my dilemma is, do I cut the cables or is there a clever way to separate the wires. Any and all help welcomed, and if there is somebody with a CVDS near Clapham, North Yorkshire, a very nice drink is heading your way if you want to assist :)

Thanks

Rob

My local vag independent garage got rid of the chime for me

The problem is that there is nothing very close to where we live. Most things are an hour away. The downside of living deep in  the Dales

Thats why I wonder if I should cut the wire or not.

Thanks

I would not cut any wires unless I knew exactly what I was dealing with

I agree, not cutting anything until somebody can tell me it's safe to do so.

That looks like the wiring for the seat (but can't really tell), if the issue is that you get the chime when there is somebody in the passenger seat with the belt on you should be looking at the wiring for the seat belt buckle first to see what condition that is in. Might be an easy fix

Thanks for the reply from West Yorkshire. We're in North Yorkshire :)

I'll check if we get the chime just when I'm driving.  I can't remember the last time I drive alone.

I'll also look at the seat buckle(s). We did check, but just glanced at them.

The pictures were taken from the front of the drivers seat facing backwards. The wiring is really difficult to get to. We thought we'd whip the seats out to do it, but the seats have the largest star (Torq?) bolt I have ever seen.

Just to put my 10 pence worth in.

I've changed seats in the past, usually if wires are connected with a plug ,it usually means you can disconnect that plug.

I had a problem once after fitting some seats, i had to refit the pressure pad from one seat to another, passenger side, i didn't get it in the correct position, we went out ,but had the pinging sound for about 10mins there and 10mins back.

Had to take seat out and reposition pressure pad.  Ping stopped. Just trying to point at what it could be, to do with.

ps, you don't need to take seat out, just tip it back, and if your going to unplug anything, disconnect the battery.

I've just driven for 40 mins with the seatbelt fastened nut behind me, so I was sitting on it. Not a beep. The buckle was bent over the seat so I'm assuming that the buckle is the issue here.

I'll have a look at the buckle tomorrow.
