Power Steering

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I am Trying to change the weight setting on my power steering acoording to the Some common VAG-COM Options for the FABIA thread located on this site,

It Says,

POWER STEERING

[select]

[44 - Steering Assist] (from Chassis tab)

[Recode - 07]

Take note of the value which is in the form 0001x1 where x is the weight setting, eg 000121

If x is set to 1, it will be very light, if it is set to 5 it will be heavy

Replace the number with the required weight, eg 000151

[Do It!]

The problem I have is that I dont have 3 0's, I have 2. So it says 00111 or something like that, I have tried to change it to 00151 but it has made no difference, can anyone help?

I have the table of codings at work and as far as ive seen no Skoda is coded the same as the SEATS which are 0001x1 and all of them seem to be coded from factory with the heaviest setting.

I Think Ive been coded with the lightest setting and it's awfully light. It's like driving a hovercraft:thumbdwn:

I can have a look at the tables tomorrow for you, cant remember them off hand.

Well I Just changed it to 00120 for vRS Steering and it has not made it any heavier, am I doing something wrong?

My 2001 Fabia seemed to be different from all the '03 onwards ones which use the 10xxx valued and used the following:

00110

00120

00130

00150

with 00110 being the most assistance and 150 being the least....

I will give them all a try, but cant you just disable the power steering entireley?

now that would be heavy steering , without any assistance

Why would you want to?

Tell a lie, I get out of work this afternoon and it's like trying to open a pickle jar:thumbup:   I changed it to the vRS setting and it's much more direct. The Reason I wanted it heavier is because I think the Fabias power steering is too light, and I really dont like power assisted steering anyway. I just feel more confident with the car at higher speeds. It took a few hours for the setting to work for some reason, but All is good.

Thanks Guys

Just a note driving a car without PAS isnt the same as driving a PAS car that the steering doesnt work.

Can I use VAG-COM to set this code for my octavia elegance TDI to get steering like the VRs or would there be many other things i need to change?

Obviously I wouldn't handle like a vrs without a few other tweaks, but the steering wouldn't feel so dead in the middle then stupidly light outside of this.

Thanks

Octavia 1 doesnt use electro hydraulic steering so no you cant.

Thanks for the quick answer :)

Oh well I guessed it was a bit too good to be true.

  • 4 weeks later...

Can somebody please tell me the controller code for PowerSteering in an RS?

I'm interested in what VAG-COM reports when accesing the controller (this can be read after going to the 44 Module ). It must be shown it the information for the controller.
