TomTom go 700 / Blue Parrot opinions wanted please.

Featured Replies

I know we have several users of the above here, I am getting peeved with my blue tooth headset, not it's fault, I keep forgetting to charge it  so am looking at a car phone solution.

I already have a go 300, but that can be passed onto my sales manager so could justify the 700 (losely). I can get a TTG700 for

I have a TTG 700 with the seperate Microphone and to be honest it's a bit ropey on the MWay at 70mph+ to much background noise and echo at times. Don't get me wrong it is usable but no where near as good as my Nokia 610 Bluetooth Car Kit.

Personally I would recomend a PDA solution running TT Navigator. I have an Ipaq combined PDA and phone and the Parrot CK3300 combined BT car kit and sat nav receiver. I use it with a Brodit powered mount. Great combination

The phone calls and sat nav instructions (and camera warnings) are routed through the car audio (which automatically mutes), so I can use the steering wheel volume controls to hear the calls. Also can take calls without touching the phone using the Parrot. When a call comes in the sat nav automatically mutes but the screen directions stay on.

All in all a great combination but not cheap.

I have the 700. I only use the handsfree occasionally (once a day maybe), and I find it very easy to use. My only comments would be that the built in mic isn't great, and the external mic is no better :thumbdwn:. Looking into getting an aftermarket mic for it. I find the sound crystal clear . I bought and installed the permanent docking kit, but it didn't work all that well - instructions came through stereo, but phone sound still through TomTom. Bizarre. Also, the keyboard is a little small, I often hit the wrong letter when scrolling through the phonebook.

All that aside, I think its a brilliant all in one solution.:thumbup:

Editted to add - the remote is great, I just forget to use it. The remote makes searching for numbers in phone book, replying to texts etc an absolute doddle.

I've just bought the 700 for its '3in1' ability and I am now wondering how i lived without it!

The navigation was fantastic getting me through Manchester, where i've never driven before, to 5 interviews. Also the speed camera locations so far seem to be accurate.

With regards to the bluetooth hands free the sound is very clear for me, although one gripe is that when i receive a call it doesn't display the name of the caller.

But a bonus i didn't expect was that it displays new txt msgs in large safe to read type.
