Things to look for when buying 2011 MK II

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Unfortunetly my 06 Octavia vRS MK II was written off and I'm looking at a 2011 Octavia vRS MK II facelift as a replacement.

I've already checked the usual, service history, tyres etc and the cam belt, apparently it's a chain, which the dealer has physically checked (my old one said chain on the systems but was actually a belt) but what other things are worth paying special attention to on a Octavia MK II vRS?

Cheers

I think theres a problem with the chain tensioner, so check if that has been changed. If that breaks, you could end up with a destroyed engine.

And the chain itself, and also the cam follower

(Literally just read that in another v similar thread :D. )

Check for rust around the rear tailgate, especially around the VRN lights/crease (I had mine resprayed under warranty,  and less than two years later it's come back worse,  and they want me to use the same people again!).

Check for whistling coming from around the doors when driving at around 55mph+, it's the door seals.

Some people have reported water in the spare wheel well,  this is normally due an issue with the rear wiper washer fluid hose leaking.

I believe the vRS is prone to 'saw toothing' with the tyres.

Check the pollen filter has been replaced as a clogged one can cause condensation issues.

Check the front seat bolsters and cushions haven't collapsed due to the foam perishing.

Petrol or diesel?

When i bought my mark 2 fl 4months ago it had rust  around the rear number plate lights also the car had a severe vibration  that was down to both rear tyres worn  on the inside like fifty pence pieces
